The new pool safety legislation introduced several important changes. Most notably, it replaced the previous 11 different safety standards with a single, unified standard applicable to all pools. The regulations now extend to include indoor pools, as well as pools associated with hotels, motels, caretaker residences, caravan parks, backpacker accommodations, hostels, mobile home parks, and homestays. Another key change is the phasing out of child-resistant doors as acceptable pool barriers for existing pools. This includes self-closing and self-latching doors, which were previously deemed sufficient.
